Sustainable cities range - Arcadis

I have found a webpage which catalogue the most important cities of the world taking into accound different parameters such us, people, planet and profit. I heard these issues a month ago when I start a sustainable course in Groningen. I understood how important are these three aspencts in a sustainable project but moreover the balance between them.

A couple days ago I found these webpage and I think it is a good mechanism to compare lots of cities and know why some are better than others.

The most sustainable cities are:

In the webpage you can find a ranking according to subcatergories inside the three PP's (Planet, People and Profit), such us education, income, crime, health, etc.

To understand better the three PP I describe you a short explanation:

PEOPLE:

This ub-index rates health, education (literacy and universities), income inequality, work-life balance, the dependency ratio, crime and living costs. With these indicators we can define the “quality of life”.

PLANET:

This sub-index ranks cities on energy consumption and renewable energy share, green space, recycling and composting rates, greenhouse gas emissions, natural catastrophe risk, drinking water, sanitation and air pollution.

PROFIT:

This sub-index examines performance from a business perspective, combining measures of transport infrastructure, ease of doing business, tourism, GDP per capita, the city’s importance in global economic networks, connectivity and employment rates.

The People have to balance the Profit and Planet to develop a sustainable city. Here I attach you an image with different kind of cities in which the balance between People, Planet and Profit is compared.

I hope this information can be helpfull to you to understand better which aspects are importants in the sustainability field. I also want to give you a range of the best cities so you can use this information to apply their solutions to your own project.
